About Us

If you’ve never been in a church or are looking for a new church home, we’d like to invite you to check out one of our Sunday worship services.
Here at Community Covenant Church you’ll find Bible-based teaching that encourages, empowers and challenges; God-centered exceptional worship and a welcoming environment.
You’ll have the opportunity to learn about God and the hope He offers, to grow in relationship with Him and discover how to live a lifestyle that is pleasing to Him.
We are a friendly multi-generational church that wants you to know that there is a place for you in God’s family and here at Community Covenant Church.

Mike Coglan – Senior Pastor
I was raised a in secular home in the Chicago area. During high school, I discovered my passions: Jesus and my future wife Laura. After college, we married and eventually came to a deep engagement with a wonderful church. Although I had a promising career in business, I found myself consumed with church leadership. Just a few months after earning my MBA, God called me back to school at North Park Theological Seminary. Since graduating, I have applied myself to making the church a more effective force for sharing the good news and making disciples. I love my church, I love my town, and I love starting spiritual conversations with skeptical people. In my spare time, I like to write, hunt, lead men’s wilderness trips, and travel with Laura to visit our grown children and their families in Alaska and Colorado.
John Sandberg – Worship Pastor
John joined Community Covenant as the Worship Director in late 2016 after 15 years as a backup worship lead at Journey Covenant in Liberty, MO. John grew up in the Covenant denomination. He was born at Swedish Covenant Hospital in Chicago and attended Edgebrook Covenant in Chicago as a child. He moved on to Northbrook Covenant in Northbrook, IL, and later Komstad Covenant in Beresford, SD where he was confirmed. After spending his high school years as a member of First Covenant in Sioux City, IA, John moved down to Kansas City in 2001 after graduating from Northwestern College in Orange City, IA, to work as a Software Engineer and helped plant Liberty Springs Covenant Church, which later became Journey Covenant. John is married to Carrie and they have a son named Caleb and two dogs, Frankie and Maggie. John loves playing and singing music, and spends his free time working on his house, playing video games, reading, or watching movies with his family.
Sandra Brown – Administrative Assistant
Sandra has been the Administration Assistant at Kearney Community Covenant since May of 2016. She tells us she feels extremely blessed to have the opportunity to work with caring people. She has always attended church. Growing up in a small town, attending vacation bible school and Sunday school class was something she looked forward to. She and her husband, Jerry, have two boys, Victor and Aaron. In their spare time they enjoy taking family vacations. One of their favorite trips was cruising to the Bahamas.
Kim Rath – Interim Children’s Ministry Director
When Kim moved to Kearney in 1994, she and her husband promptly began looking for a church to attend. Community Covenant Church was just what their family needed: a Bible-teaching church, other young families, and friendly people. Kim has always found herself serving in children’s ministries, sharing her love of God’s Word with kids and helping them grow in their faith. Kim’s other interests include outdoor activities, travel, and nutrition. Kim and Brian have 3 adult children who are currently scattered around the country.
Brenda Chouris – Church Counselor
