Staff
Adam Truax – Transitional Pastor
To put it simply I love the Church! I grew up right here in Kearney, and I’ve been serving in various ministry roles for the last 17 years. Most recently, my wife Meagan and I served as Associate Pastors at Gateway Church in Blue Springs, MO. I hold a BA in Economics from UMKC
and an MDiv from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Meagan and I are blessed with two kids, Nora and Jacob. I’m truly excited about the opportunity to serve at Community Covenant Church!
John Sandberg – Worship Pastor
John joined Community Covenant as the Worship Director in late 2016 after 15 years as a backup worship lead at Journey Covenant in Liberty, MO. John grew up in the Covenant denomination. He was born at Swedish Covenant Hospital in Chicago and attended Edgebrook Covenant in Chicago as a child. He moved on to Northbrook Covenant in Northbrook, IL, and later Komstad Covenant in Beresford, SD where he was confirmed. After spending his high school years as a member of First Covenant in Sioux City, IA, John moved down to Kansas City in 2001 after graduating from Northwestern College in Orange City, IA, to work as a Software Engineer and helped plant Liberty Springs Covenant Church, which later became Journey Covenant. John is married to Carrie, and they have a son named Caleb and three dogs, Maggie, Midnight, Oreo and one cat Milo. John loves playing and singing music, and spends his free time working on his house,
playing video games, reading, or watching movies with his family.
Sandra Brown – Administrative Assistant
Sandra has been the Administration Assistant at Kearney Community Covenant since May of 2016. She tells us she feels extremely blessed to have the opportunity to work with caring people.
She enjoys singing with the Praise Team on Sunday mornings and also serves on the safety team.
She and her husband, Jerry, have two grown boys, Victor and Aaron. In their spare time they enjoy biking and taking family vacations.
Stephanie Davis – Children’s Ministry Director
Stephanie moved to Missouri from Kingsburg, CA where she was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church of Kingsburg for nearly 25 years. She served in many different capacities during her time there, both in various children’s ministries and as a deacon. Stephanie is the mother of five children and Nonny to six grandchildren. She has a background in teaching with a degree in Art and Mathematics. In addition to time with family, Stephanie enjoys her pets, gardening, reading—and traveling when she can fit it in!! Stephanie has a passion for children and teaching them about Jesus and she is very excited to be in ministry to children here at CCC.
Brenda Chouris – Church Counselor
I grew up in Carbondale in Southern Illinois. Everyone thought I had a southern accent when I first arrived in Liberty to attend William Jewell College. I have a BA in elementary education from Jewell, an MA in counseling from UMKC and a MDiv from Midwestern Baptist Theological seminary. I have had 3 simultaneous careers in education, ministry and counseling from teaching on the mission field, Assistant Dean of Students at WJC to teaching 6th grade in Bonner Springs Kansas, youth ministry at Wornall Road Baptist church, and being a school counselor for Liberty and Park Hill Schools. I am following my life path in “retirement” by providing counseling,
volunteering with the youth of our church and going on as many mission trips as God provides opportunity. God has richly blessed me with a wonderful marriage, family and fulfilling career.
It is my joy to be able to return a portion of all I have been given by serving others through the gifts I have been given.
