About Us

If you’ve never been in a church or are looking for a new church home, we’d like to invite you to check out one of our Sunday worship services.
Here at Community Covenant Church you’ll find Bible-based teaching that encourages, empowers and challenges; God-centered exceptional worship and a welcoming environment.
You’ll have the opportunity to learn about God and the hope He offers, to grow in relationship with Him and discover how to live a lifestyle that is pleasing to Him.
We are a friendly multi-generational church that wants you to know that there is a place for you in God’s family and here at Community Covenant Church.

Mike Coglan – Senior Pastor
I was raised a in secular home in the Chicago area. During high school, I discovered my passions: Jesus and my future wife Laura. After college, we married and eventually came to a deep engagement with a wonderful church. Although I had a promising career in business, I found myself consumed with church leadership. Just a few months after earning my MBA, God called me back to school at North Park Theological Seminary. Since graduating, I have applied myself to making the church a more effective force for sharing the good news and making disciples. I love my church, I love my town, and I love starting spiritual conversations with skeptical people. In my spare time, I like to write, hunt, lead men’s wilderness trips, and travel with Laura to visit our grown children and their families in Alaska and Colorado.
John Sandberg – Worship Pastor
John joined Community Covenant as the Worship Director in late 2016 after 15 years as a backup worship lead at Journey Covenant in Liberty, MO. John grew up in the Covenant denomination. He was born at Swedish Covenant Hospital in Chicago and attended Edgebrook Covenant in Chicago as a child. He moved on to Northbrook Covenant in Northbrook, IL, and later Komstad Covenant in Beresford, SD where he was confirmed. After spending his high school years as a member of First Covenant in Sioux City, IA, John moved down to Kansas City in 2001 after graduating from Northwestern College in Orange City, IA, to work as a Software Engineer and helped plant Liberty Springs Covenant Church, which later became Journey Covenant. John is married to Carrie and
they have a son named Caleb and two dogs, Frankie and Maggie. John loves playing and singing               music, and spends his free time working on his house, playing video games, reading, or watching
         movies with his family.
Sandra Brown – Administrative Assistant
Sandra has been the Administration Assistant at Kearney Community Covenant since May of 2016. She tells us she feels extremely blessed to have the opportunity to work with caring people. She has always attended church. Growing up in a small town, attending vacation bible school and Sunday school class was something she looked forward to. She and her husband, Jerry, have two boys, Victor and Aaron. In their spare time they enjoy taking family vacations. One of their favorite trips was cruising to the Bahamas.
Stephanie Davis – Children’s Ministry Director
Stephanie came to us from Kingsburg, CA where she was a member of the Evangelical Covenant
Church of Kingsburg for nearly 25 years. She served in many different capacities during her time there, both in various children’s ministries and as a deacon. Stephanie is the mother of five children and Nonny to five grandchildren (and counting!). She was both a primary and secondary teacher in Math and Art but her most recent full time job has been caring for her grandson. In addition to time with family, Stephanie enjoys her pets, gardening, reading—and travel when she can fit it in! Stephanie has a passion for children and teaching them about Jesus and she is very excited to join the family here at Kearney Community Covenant Church.
Brenda Chouris – Church Counselor
I grew up in Carbondale in Southern Illinois. Everyone thought I had a southern accent when I first arrived in Liberty to attend William Jewell College. I have a BA in elementary education from Jewell, an MA in counseling from UMKC and a MDiv from Midwestern Baptist Theological seminary. I have had 3 simultaneous careers in education, ministry and counseling from teaching on the mission field, Assistant Dean of Students at WJC to teaching 6th grade in Bonner Springs Kansas, youth ministry at Wornall Road Baptist church, and being a school counselor for Liberty and Park Hill Schools. I am following my life path in “retirement” by providing counseling,
volunteering with the youth of our church and going on as many mission trips as God provides
opportunity. God has richly blessed me with a wonderful marriage, family and fulfilling career.
It is my joy to be able to return a portion of all I have been given by serving others through the
  gifts I have been given.
Jason Patterson – Youth Ministry Intern.
Jason joined Kearney Covenant Church in 2018 and has served as a praise band member, playing the bass guitar. For the last three years, he has served as the IT ministry lead. He grew up in Minnesota until age 12 when he moved to Colorado living there for 14 years. In 2007, Jason moved to Kearney to go to UMKC, where he met his wife Tiffany and together, they have 3 children: Maddy, Jason Jr, and Andrew. Jason has his MBA from Park University and works for a software company in Boston doing Information Security and Compliance Operations but has from a young age felt a calling to ministry. Becoming the Youth Ministry Intern will allow him to discern his calling to youth ministry.  Jason plans to start seminary at North Park Theological Seminary this fall to      further his education and to become licensed as a minister in the Covenant Church.
